ANDREJ GRONAU Island’s Isolation Spring/Summer 2027 Collection
ANDREJ GRONAU Spring/Summer 2027 Collection Island Isolation explores metamorphosis as being an accumulation of subtle shifts in the perceptions of ourselves and our surroundings. The potential for surprise in the ordinary runs throughout, echoing the psychological tension of Fancis Bacon’s paintings.
Set in The Foundry, the venue was adorned with more than 800 unique objects from around the world sourced from FAN PLAZA, WILLIAM FAN’s gift and souvenir store serving as an antechamber to the brand’s universe. The objects acted as preserved memories to tell the story of how possessions and personal traces travel across time and space.
The recurring screen-printed motifs of hand drawn cats, mice, objects, alongside flowers photographed by Karl Blossfeldt create an evolving ecosystem of characters across the garments. This implied game of cat and mouse, where hunter and prey continually exchange positions, reflects the unstable roles between the observer and the observed.
Natural palette of earthy browns and moss greens alongside tropical florals and saturated botanical colours is interrupted by beige, gold, silver, and black metallic surfaces to expose the artificiality hidden behind curated images of nature. This oscillation between ornament and camouflage represents a breakdown in appearances with the organic revealing itself as carefully composed.
Overlapping layering creates silhouettes that merge into one another leaving common categories of attire unreliable. Office wear, travel attire or holiday look? Such refusal of stable definitions reflects the theme of transformation throughout the collection by inhabiting the space in-between constants.
